It's been awhile since I've done a shoe review! Confession time - I LOVE trying as many running shoes as possible. Just ask my husband! Running shoes are definitely a personal decision, and what I am going to offer up are merely my own impressions.
I am once again a fan of the Brooks Ghost after staying away from them for several years. I was a devotee for many years, from the Ghost 3 to the Ghost 7. I tried my hardest to love the Ghost 8 and 9, but to me it felt very brick like underfoot and narrow fitting. I saw the new update at my local running store (metro Detroit friends - Gazelle Sports in Birmingham is amazing!) and noticed they felt lighter and looked wider, so I decided to give them a shot.
The Ghost is intended for the neutral runner. Priced at $120, it's definitely in the mid-price range of what you'll find in your local store or online. There are a variety of color options, and wide and narrow widths are available.
My first impressions of the shoe were very favorable. The toe box felt significantly wider than the previous version, which I loved. The overall ride was much softer. I no longer felt like I had a brick strapped to my foot. The Ghost 10 also has a slight weight reduction from its predecessor.
It was definitely love at first run, but I like to put at least 50 miles on a pair of shoes before making a determination. After 50 miles, my impressions are still the same - the Ghost 10 is a winner for me! The construction materials are very durable and I think they will have a much better grip in the snow than the other shoes in my rotation, namely the Adidas Boston 6 and Brooks Launch 4. I will be using the Ghost 10 for long runs and easy runs. For speed work and tempo runs I prefer something a bit lighter. My current shoe rotation is pictured below.
Tell me which shoes you're loving right now!
