Only 3 weeks to go! Just typing that sentence makes my chest tighten. I never feel ready or prepared for a marathon, but I know it's not rational. All I have to do is look back at my training log to know I've done the necessary preparation.
This week totaled 75 miles. I also incorporated three strength training sessions that lasted approximately 30 minutes each.
Monday - 12 miles at 7:59 average pace per mile
Tuesday - 9 miles at 8:15 pace, including 8 x 20 second strides
Wednesday - I repeated a workout I completed three weeks ago, in the hopes it would feel easier (and not harder!) than the first time. 4 mile warm up at 8:09 average pace. I then changed into my lightweight shoes and ran a total of 6.2 miles, which consisted of 6 reps of .7 miles @ 7:03 pace, and .3 miles @ 6:22 pace (not so bad this time!). I finished the faster segment with .2 miles @ 6:00 pace. My cool down 2.8 miles was at 8:03 pace. This was definitely easier than last time, and I wasn't intimidated because I knew what to expect.
Thursday - 10 miles at 8:03 average pace per mile
Friday - 8 miles at 8:40 average pace per mile
Saturday - 6 miles at 7:54 average pace, ending the run with 8 x 20 second strides
Sunday - Rock CF Rivers Half Marathon. My goal for this race was not to give a race effort, rather to practice my marathon pace (7:00 - 7:05 per mile). My average pace was 7:01. Success! I have another post planned later this week to recap the race and my takeaways.
Overall, a great week, and better weather meant less treadmill miles! With only three weeks until race day, the miles will start to go down, and I'll be more diligent than ever with my stretching and foam rolling. And time to start obsessing about the weather, my outfit, pre-race dinner, etc. Tell me you do the same thing!
