Last week I continued to bounce back from my knee tendinitis and ran 68 miles. I'm still sticking to my easy pace and enjoying the fact that I am able to run without pain. Below is a summary of my week:
- Monday - 10 miles at 8:04 average pace per mile
- Tuesday - 8.5 miles at 8:41 average pace
- Wednesday - 12 miles at 8:04 average pace. The plan for this run was 8 x 1 minute at marathon effort in the middle of the run, but after the fifth rep I could feel some tightness in my knee, so I dialed back to easy pace. It was a little disappointing that I couldn't handle even a small amount of speed, but as I already mentioned, being able to run at all has to be good enough right now. I may try this workout again tomorrow with hopefully better results.
- Thursday - Off
- Friday - 9.25 miles at 8:43 average pace
- Saturday - 20 miles at 7:59 average pace
- Sunday - 8.25 miles at 8:42 average pace
- Strength workouts - 2 weight sessions - 30 - 40 minutes each, 2 Dailey Method classes - 35 to 50 minutes each, and lots of PT exercises
I am looking forward to a stress free marathon experience at Bayshore. After that, I'll use the first part of June to cut back mileage a bit before starting my training for the Detroit Free Press marathon. I also need to decide on a coach in the near future.
Yesterday I bought a hip and glute strength focused program that I am excited to start. It's called The Glute Kickstart Programme, and it's designed by James Dunne of Kinetic Revolution. I decided to do this because the time I have been in physical therapy has revealed some significant weakness in my right hip, which is the source of my knee tendonitis. There are two short workouts each week that you are encouraged to do 2-3 times per week. I'll have a more detailed write up when I finish the program.

Last week I did something exciting - I booked a hotel room for the 2019 Boston Marathon! It seems so far away but it will be here before I know it. I cant wait to go back!

In summary, there's not much to see here, folks. Just laying the foundation for some hopefully great races in Detroit in October 2018 and in Boston in April 2019. It's the little things that add up to a big result.
